Algonquin Limestone is a medium density limestone that can be used for both interior and exterior applications. Featuring an earthy brown tone and moderate vein patterning, Algonquin Limestone is well suited to virtually any project. Algonquin Limestone is also available in large format pieces. Algonquin Limestone is only quarried near Wiarton, Ontario. Exterior applications will acquire a patina and lighten in colour tone.
Algonquin has formed in a thin bed, approximately 12”/30cm thick. The result of this is a maximum vein cut width of the same 12”/30cm. Algonquin has also formed in a very uniform fashion, which allows for more consistent stone with fewer flaws. With this consistency comes an ability to create custom shapes more easily out of Algonquin as well.
Limestone being a natural product will always vary in both colour and texture.

Algonquin Limestone meets the requirements of Class 2 Medium density limestone. The results for Absorption, Modulus of Rupture and Compression meet the requirements for Class 3 high density limestone by a significant amount. The results for Density are just slightly below the required 160 lbs/ft. for Class 3 high density limestone. It is well above the 135 lbs/cu.ft. for Class 2 medium density limestone. Given the excellent strength test results, we would have no hesitation in recommending this stone as an equivalent to Class 3 high density limestone.
